An old family favourite and always a hit at parties.

Ingredients:

200g mars bars (4 small bars) cut/broken into small pieces
200g dark chocolate – cut/broken into small pieces
90g butter
3 cups rice bubbles

Method:

  1. Line a square baking tray with baking paper (I use a 20cm x 20cm)

  2. In a pan on over LOW heat (very important! You don’t want to burn the chocolate), add butter and mars bars and let it slowly melt

  3. Keep sitting so that it doesn’t burn on the bottom. It will take a while to melt everything and there is a phase where it goes all lumpy. This is because the chocolate in the mars bar has melted but not the nougat

  4. Keep mixing until mixture is thick and smooth. This takes about 20 minutes

  5. Pour this mixture into the rice bubbles and mix well until all the rice bubbles are covered

  6. Spread the mixture evenly into the baking pan and put aside for now
  7. In a microwave set to medium (NOT high), put the dark chocolate bits into a small bowl and microwave for 50 seconds.

  8. Take it out and stir well. Then return to microwave – heating on medium at 20 second intervals. Mixing well between each interval. After 2-3 zaps, you will only have a few solid bits of chocolate left. If you mix it well, it should just melt in by itself. Once again, you do not want to over cook the chocolate and burn it

  9. Spread the melted chocolate evenly onto the rice bubble mixture

  10. Cover with foil and refrigerate for 2 hours

  11. Turn the slab upside down onto a cutting board and cut into small squares

  12. Return to the fridge until you are ready to serve it 🙂
