Gyudon – Japanese Beef bowl

Ingredients

1 large onion – sliced
2 tablespoons chopped shallots
200g thinly sliced beef
oil
1 tablespoon white sugar
4 tablespoon sake
4 tablespoon mirin
2 tablespoon soy sauce
3 eggs – beaten
2 cups cooked Japanese rice

Method:

  1. in a pan, heat up some oil and cook onions and shallots

  2. while it cooks, in a bowl, mix mirin, sake and soy

  3. Cook onions until very soft

  4. Add beef and sugar

  5. cook until beef is browned – stirring regularly

  6. Add in sauce  mix

  7. cook for a further 3-5 minutes until half the liquid is gone and then add egg

  8. Let it cook for a minute or 2 – until the egg is JUST cooked

  9. Serve over japanese rice
